The Surfer Behind The Boards

Marty Allen is a master surf-craft shaper. Born in Australia in 1968, he first got started in surfing when he was only ten years old and by age twelve had moved on to windsurfing. When he was fifteen, he took this hobby a step further and began making his own surfboards. Soon, he and his younger brother Steve were riding these surfboards themselves.

It was on the Tweed Coast of New South Wales that Marty learned to love surfing. There, he joined the Snapper Rocks Board Riders Club, with whom he competed in a number of contests, shaping boards for high-profile surfers along the Gold Coast. Upon turning eighteen, he traveled to Indonesia and Hawaii, checking out the famous surf breaks those countries host. In Hawaii, he shaped boards alongside Mark Angel, longboard pioneer Wayne Myada, and Dennis Garvis, the owner of Spuder Surfboards. In addition, he ghost shaped for Rusty’s Surfboards while he was in Southern California, doing work for elite surfers throughout the state.

Marty has spent the last twenty years traveling between Hawaii, Southern California, and the Tweed Coast, and after working with Javier Huarava Epoxy-Pro of XTR for a decade, he has now launched his own label, Mad Surf! He is laboring away as hard as ever, making use of his thirty-five years of experience. Thousands of boards into his career, he is a world-renowned expert in the art of surfboard shaping.

If you try, you risk failure.
If you don’t, you ensure it.
Out of water, I am nothing.
